Windsor Chester Windsor 600 Calendar Event 2019

This page is for downloading alternative versions of the GPS files for this, Danial Webb's calendar event, starting from Bray, nr Windsor, on Saturday 1 June 2019 at 6am and 7.30am.  If you want information about the ride itself, visit AUK or yacf.

The GPS routes given on this page were plotted from the routesheet and then visually compared with the GPS files sent out by Danial himself, and they concur as far as I can tell (zoomed right in).

Note that the routes given here go via the optional sleep stop at Sheriffhales on the return leg, but that is NOT mandatory, so you could just keep going on the main road if you didn't need to stop and you would rejoin the return route after 400m.  This is all described on the routesheet.

The GPS files

There are three versions of the GPS files:

  • The route in one, complete part
  • The route in two, 308km legs: to dinner at Christleton nr Chester, and back to brunch at Bray nr Windsor.
  • The route in one-part-per-stage, so ten parts.

And there are two formats:

  • TCX — good for all modern devices, which includes coursepoints for controls (beeps)
  • GPX — for all devices, including legacy devices, and includes waypoints for controls (can fire proximity alarms)

And three different point-counts:

  • Up to 10,000 (10k) points — all modern devices
  • 500 points — all modern and most legacy devices
  • 250 points — ancient, “time to get a new GPS”, devices

Therefore, choose the most appropriate for your device, the actual GPS files are further down the page:

  • 10k TCX — Modern Garmin Edges and Wahoo's
  • 10k/500 GPX — Older Garmin eTrex, Montana, et al
  • 250 GPX — Really old, simple Garmins

Make sure you test these files out on your device before you start, to make sure the ones you've chosen work on your device!

There are additional notes in the organiser's notes and routesheet, including cautions and warnings. It is your responsibility to familiarise yourself with the route and any reported hazards before you start, especially as none of that information is included in the GPS files!

You can also browse the route and view the elevation profiles, or pin the route to your Wahoo, on RideWithGPS here

These routes are not tested!  I'll be testing them on 1 June … I will also have Danial's eleven GPS files loaded on my Garmin, just in case.

And don't forget that the route is MANDATORY and that Danial has previously said that there will be TWO secret controls!

Full WCW 600 route in one part

This is an out-and-back course, so make sure you follow it in the correct direction!  Personally, I think you would be better to use the two-legs version of the route for navigation.

  • Full course, 10k points — TCX or GPX  file
  • Full course on RideWithGPS — RWGPS link

It would be fairly foolish to try to navigate the whole 600km route using the 500- or 250-point files, especially as it's mandatory-route, but here you go for fun — these are possibly quite useful for WeatherBagel or WindSock:

  • Full course, 500 points — TCX or GPX  file
  • Full course, 250 points — TCX or GPX  file

The route will appear as WCW_FULL_… on your device.

WCW 600 route in two legs, north and south

IMPORTANT — you will require both GPS files from the ZIP file!

  • To dinner and back, 10k-point legs — TCX or GPX  ZIP
  • To dinner and back, 500-point legs — TCX or GPX  ZIP

It would be a little silly to try to navigate each 300km leg using the 250-point files, especially as it's mandatory-route, but here you go for kicks:

  • To dinner and back, 250-point legs — TCX or GPX  ZIP

The routes will appear as WCW_NORTH_… and WCW_SOUTH_… on your device.

WCW 600 route in ten stages — five north and five south

IMPORTANT — you will require all the GPS files from the ZIP file! — AND CHECK THEY DO COPY OVER TO YOUR DEVICE BEFORE LEAVING HOME!

  • Stage-by-stage, 10k-point stages — TCX or GPX  ZIP
  • Stage-by-stage, 500-point stages — TCX or GPX  ZIP
  • Stage-by-stage, 250-point stages — TCX or GPX  ZIP

The routes will appear as WCW_N1_…, WCW_S2_…, etc., on your device — …Nx… for northbound and …Sx… for southbound, as per Danial's naming convention.
